Sex tourism – between cultural tourism and pathological tourism

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to resolve, whether the sex tourism can be considered as a field of the cultural tourism. There is no doubt, that the sex tourism has a lot in common with pathological tourism. Although, the thing which is debatable, is how to define this phenomenon. Both polish and foreign researchers often represent different approaches to this matter, which proves how little is known so far about the sex tourism. The analysis of literature, as well as of the web content, the reportages and documentaries, and the diagnostic survey method were used in order to achieve the objectives. The first method – literature analysis – didn’t allow to assign the sex tourism into neither pathological, nor cultural tourism. The respondents of the survey didn’t show enough of familiarization with the phenomenon, which would prove the understanding of its broadness. The effect of the deep study of this issue resulted in a creation of a new division of sex tourism. What is more, the new approach to the sex tourism was also presented.
